March 2011 will never be forgotten. The earthquake and tsunami that hit the Tohoku region of Japan struck with massive devastation and with it, many lives of family members, loved ones, and children. I've had the opportunity to travel to the Tohoku region twice this year. Back in June, myself along with other musicians went to several evacuation shelters and performed music for them. We also went to Sendai and saw some of the devastation that this massive tsunami left behind. I have to say that this was very life changing for me, and it reminded me that the problems and worries that I thought was very significant to me, didn't seem that way anymore!
In the wake of this, Hawai'i and many people around the world has produced many relief efforts including fund raising events, and people just traveling there to help with the cleaning effort. The support has just been amazing!
While I was there, we learned that these people that suffered lost of homes, jobs, and loved ones are not getting most of the funds that were donated to help them. We also learned that they were 200 kids that lost their families. We learned that the government and some of the charity institutions were withholding most of the funds for whatever reason. This tragedy isn't "news" anymore! We cannot forget and we cannot stop helping!
We realized that the best way for these people to receive any help from the outside, is to give it directly to them.
With the contacts that I personally have with people in the Tohoku area, I can get the donations to them directly.
